Job Description

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:  (Summary of job duties)

Provides advice and assistance when problems or questions about the job or departmental operations arises, demonstrates excellent performance in the execution of duties and responsibilities. Assists Quality Assurance Manager to manage the departmental activities. Supervises and manages departmental staffs. Coordinates with other departments, suppliers and external customers on quality issues and requirements. Areas of responsibilities include (but not limited to) product release and preparation of Certificate of Compliance, in-line quality assurance audits, incoming material control, QA Hold program of raw materials and products, internal and external audits, customer complaint and sanitation program. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists Quality Assurance Manager to manage department activities and execute as per quality assurance manual.
  • Supervises and manages departmental staff.
  • Coordinates with other departments, suppliers and external customers on quality issues and requirements.
  • Reviews in-line quality assurance reports, production reports, testing reports and other departmental reports.
  • Organizes internal audits and prepares for external audits.
  • Coordinates product release and Certificate of Compliance and Analysis for customers.
  • Manages the incoming material control program.
  • Manages the QA Hold program of raw materials, production rejects, and customer returns.
  • Assists in customer complaints.
  • Monitors the sanitation program.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include hiring and training of employees; planning and assigning work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Communicates with QA management, Production, Warehouse, and personnel of other departments on test results and if any result deviation.
  • Monitors laboratory activities and supplies.
  • Attends all company and department required trainings
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Conduct all monitoring activities to assure finished product comply with food safety and quality specifications.
  • Enforces compliance with company GMP guidelines on the line.
  • Conduct verification of monitoring activities to assure finished product comply with food and safety quality specifications. 
  • Assist in the maintenance of Food Safety and Quality system.
  • Interface with other departments and trainers to develop and implement food safety programs as required.
  • Reports all safety quality, issues, and deviations to upper management.
  • Comply with all Plant, State, Federal, OSHA, EPA, FDA, HACCP, and SQF guidelines and regulations for food safety, quality, and employee safety.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices requirements to ensure food safety, safe work practices

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Must be able to work effectively in a multi-tasking work environment, and be familiar with quality assurance management and standard. Must be experienced working with computers and designated software programs as required to perform job functions. Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision and have the ability to interact positively with others within the department and the organization. Must be able to effectively supervise others.  Must have understanding of company and customer specifications and ensure proper documentation.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree in scientific discipline (Dairy/Food science preferred) or equivalent work experience, and with three years and above work experience in food industry.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is normally performed in a warehouse/production type atmosphere where the temperature is as low as 32 degrees, low environmental temperature levels.  Noise level in the production environment may require use of hearing protection.  Requires standing for long periods of time, walk, climb stairs, frequent lifting of material up to 50 pounds and frequent twisting, turning, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
