Job Description

MAIN DUTIES:

  • Lead efforts to ensure that products/processes meet and exceed customer and regulatory requirements for Food Quality attributes and Food Safety for both Louisville facilities.
  • Manage all Food Safety and regulatory compliance programs (HACCP, GMP, Microbial surveillance, Allergens, Pest Control, Sanitation Program Improvement; weight control, hold and reject; product recovery, consumer contact, allergens, and inspections (internal and external).
  • Support Division Quality Program development and implementation at the discretion of the Vice President, Quality Assurance. Support Division teams and initiatives as well as support best practice sharing.
  • Implement and maintain Quality systems as necessary to meet standards as established by our customers, including process control systems and finished products audits.
  • Management oversight and support to ensure all records, procedures, processes, packaging and equipment is in compliance with all Company, state, federal and other regulatory requirements.
  • Develop Alchemy-based, facility specific training programs as necessary.
  • Work closely with Operations Management to identify and implement strategies to reduce consumer complaints and improve product Quality. Additionally, oversee the development of facility Quality/Food Safety goals annually and track/trend results.
  • Work closely with sales/corporate to establish new account specifications and product development.
  • Oversee and manage Food Safety and Quality requirements for facility projects, line additions, line extensions and overall contractor operation program.
  • Maintain finished product, raw material and packaging specifications and maintain records related to the Bill of Materials and the change order process.
  • Supervise and develop Quality Assurance Staff to support the production process through improved skill and attribute development to provide quality tools and product improvement techniques.
  • Analyze Quality, Food Safety and consumer complaints and identify areas that need improvement. Respond to complaints as required.
  • Work closely with R&D Technologist to develop technical information for consumer packaging and on plant trials for new products, following up with Production until commercialization is completed.
  • Provide oversight to ensure formulas, specifications and standards are correct and current to process or regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for and acts as plant-based liaison for communicating Food Safety and Food Regulatory communications as issued from the Corporate and/or Division level.
  • Ensure that Senior Management shall provide adequate resources to support the development, implementation, maintenance and ongoing improvement of the SQF 2000 (or equivalent Food Safety/Food Quality Strategy):
  • Ensure that Senior Management shall designate an SQF Practitioner (or Food Safety equivalent) with responsibility and authority to:
  • Lead the development and implementation of Food Safety Fundamentals and Food Safety Plan(s) (via Product HACCP Plans or equivalent).
  • Oversee the development, implementation and review and maintenance of the SQF 2000 (or equivalent Food Safety /Food Quality Strategy).
  • Ensure the integrity of execution, maintenance and sustainability of the SQF 2000 (or equivalent Food Safety /Food Quality Strategy).
  • Communicate information (trends, data, needs, non-compliances, internal and external audits, surveys, etc.) to relevant Plant and Corporate personnel to ensure effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF 2000 System (or equivalent Food Safety/Food Quality Strategy).
  • Ensure the plant staff is aware of their responsibility to report Food Safety problems to plant or Division personnel with authority to initiate action, including evaluation of the potentially impacted product or process.
  • Ensure those responsible for Food Safety have defined or designated alternates and/or provisions to cover for key Food Safety activities in the event of absence.
  • Create and maintain an empowered, highly motivated work culture within and outside the plant facility to:
  • Develop and expand technical behaviors for Food Safety and Food Quality competencies with direct reports and plant teams.
  • Develop and implement a QA Lead Program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Demonstrated leader who is involved with the production and engineering groups to solve problems and improve processes.
  • Well versed in Food Safety Programs and regulatory management.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles and decision based Quality Systems.
  • Ten plus years of leading training programs for Food Safety, Product Quality and Quality Systems development.
  • Integrated program development for Food Safety, Sanitation, microbiological safety and decision-based Quality Systems.
  • Computer skills to include Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis in database and spreadsheet software.

Job Qualifications


EDUCATION:

  • Minimum BS in Food Science or related field or comparable experience in Food Science. At a minimum, must be certified in HACCP, SQF and ASQ.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Ten plus years experience in Quality/R&D programs within the food industry.
  • Five years of Operations Management experience is preferred.
