Job Description
Provide engineering and technical support for production lines to insure the safe, efficient production of quality products. Focus on maintaining reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving rates, yields, and costs. Support, implement, and maintain food safety practices as required through SQF. Will be responsible for completing job duties in a manner that supports all plant safety, food safety, quality and environmental practices. Must be able to read and understand English. JOB ACTIVITIES/DUTIES Demonstrate and ensure safe work practices. Understand equipment and ingredient variables affecting product attributes, quality, rates, and yields. Technical expert for production line. Able to run and troubleshoot equipment. Sets process parameters; uses statistical process control concepts to reduce process variation. Monitors mass balance data to verify line performance. Understands key ingredient attributes and specifications for assigned products, able to adjust process for ingredient variation. Ensures equipment is performing to specifications; manages Instrument calibration program (ICV). Responsible for root cause analysis and corrective action for non-compliance, safety or environmental issues related to equipment issues or ingredient characteristics. Monitors equipment uptime. Works with maintenance and other plant engineering resources to resolve equipment downtime causes. Maintain an up-to-date assessment of the production line’s capabilities and restrictions. Evaluate and recommend capital projects. Work on capital projects if assigned. Primary contact for technical training on equipment operation. Provide appropriate coverage for a 24/7-production operation including night and weekend coverage as needed. JOB REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. Experience: Five or more years of engineering experience in a food processing plant environment. Technical Skills: Demonstrated problem solving skills. Proven innovation and creativity. Able to achieve results while simultaneously executing multiple projects. Experience using statistical methods, design of experiments, and Lean/Six Sigma methodologies. Possesses an up-to-date awareness of Federal, State, and Local engineering codes and regulations. Management Skills: Excellent communication skills. Able to work effectively in a team-based environment with multiple functional groups. Responsibilities: Work with Plant Engineering Manager, Operations Manager and Line Managers to prioritize and budget time, money, and resources for multiple activities. Decisions can impact up to $20MM of the operating budget and a significant part of a $500MM+ annual production/sales volume and several million dollars in plant equipment.
