Job Description
This position reports to the Distribution Manager and will help lead all Distribution and Transportation planning and strategic activities. Help coordinate product flow from Plant to Depot and Plant-to-Plant, utilizing proper transportation scheduling that is in compliance with DOT regulations.

PRINCIPAL ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Recruit, interview, select, train, motivate, coach, and mentor shipping clerks and transport drivers so they can become promotable by producing superior results.
  • Monitors Drivers Logs on a daily basis to insure that the Drivers are in compliance according to DOT regulations
  • Organizing and managing day-to-day operation of distribution personnel to ensure accurate and on-time order fulfillment
  • Help determine the necessary manpower needed in the distribution department according to volume levels
  • Schedule transportation schedules for all runs to depots and other plants
  • Identifies the opportunities for capturing transportation synergies between depots and other plants
  • Communicating and consistently applying policies, procedures, practices, and standards
  • Assisting in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities and customer satisfaction opportunities for the department
  • Evaluating and managing equipment, systems, and facility to improve efficiencies and work flow
  • Tracks  Material Handling Equipment (MHE) from Plant to Depot and Plant-to-Plant
  • Responsible for tracking safety programs for the distribution and transportation departments
  • Directs and guides employees on Good Manufacturing Programs (GMP)


REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of one year experience in distribution/transportation
  • Excellent communication, motivation, and organizational skills
  • Experience collaborating with management developing a long-term strategy and anticipating trends accurately
  • The ability to identify hidden problems and trends with the foresight to look beyond the obvious in solutions and answers
  • Experience understanding and following the contracts determined and agreed upon between the company and the local unions
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelorâ??s degree strongly preferred
  • Prior supervisory experience strongly desired
  • Supervisory experience with a unionized workforce is a significant plus
  • DSD (Direct Store Delivery) experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in a bakery or food environment desired
  • Experience with a national logistics/shipping company is a plus
