Job Description

Must have Food Experience and SQF/BRC experience!
 

Position Purpose

This position leads the establishment of a world-class quality function and culture by providing leadership and direction in the following areas:

  • food safety,
  • compliance to applicable regulatory requirements and company quality standards,
  • implementation of the company-wide quality initiatives,
  • the professional and technical development of Plant QA Managers, and
  • development and execution of a local, plant-specific quality agenda

 

Scope/Complexity/Supervisory Responsibilities

 

Main Competencies

  • Strong quality leadership experience
  • Profound understanding of food safety, quality-related regulatory and company policies, procedures and standards
  • Excellent coaching and teaching skills on technical and professional subjects to align food safety and quality programs with production processes
  • Cultivate a total quality management environment by training and empowering
  • Accomplish results through individuals and/or a team by delegating work, task, or assignments; establish effective controls; ensure that associates have the necessary resources and authority; monitor the results
  • Act as an owner of the business and make decisions that ensure long-term value for the organization.

DECISION MAKINGThis position is responsible for defining and implementing strategic quality initiatives and the tactical execution at assigned plants. The Corporate QA Manager routinely makes decisions regarding:

  • assessment and development of a quality culture that supports OSI strategic plan
  • identification and targeting of quality improvement opportunities
  • sufficiency and robustness of Quality Systems
  • competency and performance of Plant QA Managers

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the creation of a quality culture and  mindset throughout assigned plants and support same across all functions within the organization
  • Interface with Operations Team  to lead the quality agenda, review measured progress, and work collaboratively to achieve defined objectives
  • Create strategies to lead Plant Manager and Plant Quality Manager thinking and plans regarding 1) food safety, 2) compliance to company quality requirements, 3) the Corporate Quality strategic plab, and 4) plant-specific quality improvement agenda
  • Coach Plant QA Managers on:
    • the development and execution of tactical plans in support of the strategies to assure success
    • the application of quality tools and techniques, shared successful practices, and professional leadership skills
    • effective deployment of quality resources and successful day-to-day execution of robust quality systems
  • Facilitate technical development through quality and risk assessment tools (RCA, FMEA) to strengthen and improve quality planning.
  • Serve assigned plants as Single-Point-of-Contact for quality issue resolution and non-conforming product management
  • Support Sales organization by providing expertise re: quality concerns and initiatives to customers

Skills/ Knowledge & Experience

  • B.S. or Masters in Food Science, Engineering, or one of the Physical Sciences required
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in food-related manufacturing with direct experience in Operations, Quality Assurance, supervision or manufacturing procedures required
  • A minimum of 7 years strong quality leadership and management experience required
  • Leadership and coaching skills that enable effective interaction and influence of plant and corporate personnel in matrix organizations involving projects and task force groups
  • Technical knowledge of quality systems and food safety; knowledge of relevant Government regulations and certification criteria
  • Excellent verbal / written communication skills; computer and statistical skills
  • Experience with 3rd party auditors, such as SQF, BRC, AIB, or Silliker
  • HACCP and or Six Sigma Certification
  • Subject matter expertise in GMP's, Allergens, SSOP; BRC standards
