Job Description

Position Summary

The Sanitation Manager is directly responsible for providing direction and compliance in the cleaning of equipment in manufacturing, facility and grounds, disposal and waste management. The position is also responsible for pest control, janitorial staff, safety, compliance and record keeping.  The position is responsible for the selection, training and communication of subordinates on safety, good cleaning practices and company policies. The Sanitation Manager will resolve daily operational issues. The position will evaluate labor, supplies, chemical usage and disposal costs to determine efficiencies and develop corrective actions. The position plans and coordinates personnel resource allocation to support manufacturing and provides reviews, training, counseling and development to support quality performance. The position has budgetary responsibilities in development of budget and meeting or exceeding expectations to budget. The position works closely with all departments as well with regulatory agencies such as USDA and Quality Assurance. This is a hand’s on position. The Sanitation Manager’s primary time will be on third shift. However, their schedule must be flexible enough to work with other shifts to monitor progress, conduct meetings and resolve issues. The position must “Lead by Example”.
 

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership and direction to sanitation personnel to accomplish above responsibilities accurately, safely, and timely.  This includes:
    • Daily scheduling of personnel to support varying workload activities.
    • Development of an effective, well-skilled line. Includes:
  2. Development of metrics to measure and communicate performance.
  3. Communicate job performance standards to associates.
  4. Provide timely and consistent feedback, coach and motivate associates to exceed expectations.
  5. Develop performance improvement plans as appropriate and administer corrective action as needed.
  6. Responsible for working closely with all departments to ensure desired level of sanitation for adequate food processing departments such as QA, Maintenance, USDA, Warehouse and Manufacturing.
  7. Ensure utmost care and protection of equipment, electronics and motors when conducting cleaning.
  8. Reviews daily operational labor, chemical and disposal costs. Takes corrective actions to determine root cause.
  9. Lead the development and subsequent adherence to cost center budgets and work toward obtaining operations objectives and goals.
    • Will be involved and expected the “go to” person on sanitation requirements.
  10. Ensure a safe and secure environment for all associates by heightening safety awareness through training and feedback of safe working techniques and housekeeping practices.
  11. Responsible for upkeep and accurate maintaining of records such as pest control, master cleaning schedule and other regulatory or plant sanitary programs.
  12. Perform other related duties and special assignments as required or assigned by Supervisor

 

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Four years of supervision/management experiencein a manufacturing business
  • Bachelors Degree in a related field or Equivalent level of Experience in Food/High Speed manufacturing
  • Working knowledge of USDA, OSHA standards, general plant sanitation and safety rules and regulations
  • Experience in chemical training, usage and documentation
  • Strong problem solving, communication and presentation skills
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel): Must have ability and skill sets to use in house computer based system (i.e. Ross).
  • Ability to develop and document S.O.P.’s
  • Proven team leadership skills and experience. Ability to interact with employees, customers and vendors in a positive and professional manner
  • Strong analytical skills, problem solving capabilities and visionary

 

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Industrial (high volume) food processing experience
  • Experience in Plant Sanitary Requirement and Chemical Usage/compliance
  • Bilingual preferred

 

Documents and Procedures:

  • Safety Rules, GMP’s, Maintenance Work Orders, Pest Control Logs, Chemical Usage, Lockout Tag-out, confined space
  • Plant Sanitary Standards and SOP’s
  • Production Personnel Protective Equipment - PPE

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to travel throughout Production areas and stoop, kneel and crawl in small spaces
  • Must be able to work in an office and factory environment, including refrigerated warehouses
  • Must be able to push, pull and lift occasional heavy loads (50lbs or more)
  • Must be able to work flexible hours based upon needs of Operation
