Job Description

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:  (Summary of job duties)

Provides advice and assistance when problems or questions about the job or departmental operations arises, demonstrate excellent performance in the execution of duties and responsibilities. Conducts testing on raw materials and finished products and environment swabs. Reports results and informs Laboratory Coordinator and management of deviations. Coordinates sampling and sample submission for external laboratory testing. Prepares certificates for customers and consolidate QA reports. Assists Laboratory Coordinator in his/her routines and take up the duty at his/her absence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs physical, analytical and microbial testing as well as sensory evaluation, as per QA manual and procedures.
  • Performs environmental testing using sterile technique.
  • Coordinates with the sanitation department for execution of the environmental testing program.
  • Communicates with QA management, Production, and Sanitation personnel on test results and observations made during the sanitation process.
  • Assists the line technicians as required.
  • Assists in the Sample Retain Program.
  • Prepares production line QA Stations and calibrates equipment for processing as needed.
  • Generates departmental reports and consolidate QA audit reports.
  • Prepares Certificate of Compliance/ Analysis for customers and as required.
  • Ensures laboratory as per Good Laboratory Practice.
  • Performs Laboratory Coordinator routine duties at his/her absence.
  • Adheres to company attendance and punctuality policy.
  • Attends all department and company required trainings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Coordinates on sampling and testing requirements of raw materials and finished products. Conduct sampling as required.
  • Conducts sanitation audits and performs pre-op inspection
  • Implements Environmental Monitoring Program.
  • Verifies that raw materials and finished products meet set specifications
  • Conduct all monitoring activities to assure finished products comply with food safety and quality specifications.
  • Reports to QA Laboratory Coordinator and QA management on test results and if any result deviation
  • Reports all safety, quality issues and deviations to management.
  • Comply with all Plant, State, Federal, OSHA, EPA, FDA, USDA, HACCP, and SQF guidelines and regulations for food safety, quality and employee safety.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices requirements to ensure food safety, safe work practices.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Must be able to work effectively in a multi-tasking work environment, must have excellent English written and verbal communications. Math skills must be at a high school level (including adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, percentages, averages, etc). Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision and has the ability to interact positively with others within the department and the organization, must have great attention to detail and have legible handwriting.

PACIFIC CHEESE REQUIRED TRAINING:  (Required training not desired)

In additional to the following, all new employees are required to attend New Employee Orientation. Training on all aspects of laboratory equipment includes chemistry, microbiological and line audits. Must have understanding of company and customer specifications and ensure proper documentation. Employee shall also be trained but not limited to Good Manufacturing Practices, HACCP, CCP and Safety.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree in scientific discipline (Dairy/Food science preferred) or extensive work experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree.  1-2 years and above experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is normally performed in a confined laboratory/office interior environment, with occasional work in the warehouse/production environment (with temperature as low as 35 degree F).  Noise level in the production area may require use of hearing protection. Requires standing for long periods of time, walk, climb stairs, frequent lifting of material up to 50 pounds and frequent twisting, turning, reaching, pushing and pulling.  Flexible work schedule supporting a 24 hour production facility.  A regular shift assigned.  Schedule may include weekends.
