Job Description

PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the assistant plant manager shall safely produce and deliver customer satisfaction, a quality product and service. He/she will perform this task cost effectively as defined in the annual budget.

 DUTIES:  The duties of this position are those described below.  This job description does not state or imply that the duties listed are the only duties and responsibilities assigned to this position.  Employees holding this position will be required to perform any other job-related duties as requested by management.

  1.  Essential Duties These duties directly and substantially serve to achieve the purpose of the position.

  • Primary liaison and coordinator for all manufacturing activities, receiving, production, warehouse and support areas: maintenance, sanitation and total quality.
  • To promote plant safety through education of employees, directing safety committees, creating programs and incentives.
  • Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities for assigned programs including recruitment, selection and placement.                                                                 
  • To assist in establishing quality specifications and ensure that they are met by the plant employees.
  • Responsible for service to sales compliance in all areas.
  • Assist in development of the operating budget for the plant.
  • Establish and maintain productivity standards.                              
  • To supervise month end inventories and close as it relates to manufacturing and transportation of product.
  • Provide leadership to all subordinates and guide personnel when needed.
  • To uphold company policies; review existing policies and procedures and make recommendations.
  • Suggest ideas for the continuous improvements and changes in work instructions, job descriptions and training needs.
  • Recommending the hiring of personnel and overseeing special job training.
  • Keeping employees informed on factors relating to their work assignment, work progress, and opportunity for advancement.
  • Evaluating, as deemed necessary by the company, the performance of introductory employees, regular employees, and employees who are being terminated.
  • Schedule vacation of all managers and supervisors.
  • Establish and maintain productivity standards.
  • Coordinates and executes monthly meetings with key staff in order to maintain open lines of communication and to provide departmental and plant results.
  • Maintain up to date records for all plant programs: ISO, HACCP, Food Safety, Quality, Recall, etc.
  • Must be able to comply and keep administrative requirements current: inspections, CAR’s, consumer/customer complaints, service failures, safety, food safety, CQI open items, cost and other management reports.

2. Other Duties

  • To constantly find ways to improve operations.
  • To assist in cost analysis of plant improvements.
  • To act as the communication link between upper management and the plant employees.
  • To assist corporate as required.
  • To execute projects as directed by the Plant Manager.
  • To ensure compliance with regulatory agencies. 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • Bachelors Degree, preferably in food and science    
  • Minimum of seven years of management experience in a food manufacturing plant
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and make decisions.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of production
  • Shipping and Receiving warehouse management.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish Required – Ability to read, write and speak
