Job Description

The J.R. Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held organization with roots firmly planted in agriculture and agriculture-related businesses. These endeavors have been around for centuries and will continue to be a vital part of the global economy. We currently have an Applications Analyst 2 or 3 position available at our Land & Livestock Headquarters in Grand View, ID.

Overview:

Work independently at the highest technical level and under minimal supervision on all phases of complex projects and/or tasks. Act as a resource to help direct, train, and guide other departmental staff; and work with users in cross-functional teams, often coordinating the activities of a project team to support the business group functions. Formulate and define system scope, objectives and requirements through research, fact-finding and leading focus groups or workshops. Consider business objectives, user impact, interfaces, integration points and project deliverables when designing, developing, or supporting applications. Analyze and revise existing system logic, prepare detailed prototypes or specifications from which programs will be written and create documentation as necessary. Provide end-user support for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) modules, and/or stand-alone applications of highest complexity. May conduct presentations, prioritization meetings, end-user training, review the work of less experienced staff, and perform quality assurance testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate existing systems and develop system requirements based upon user needs, existing technical architecture, department goals, and company strategy. Support analysis of business practices to identify impact of improvement options. Perform tasks such as writing use cases and RFPs, creating test plans, Emailing communications regarding pending changes and system outages. Decisions are guided by policies, standard procedures and business plan. In addition, an Analyst 3 will participate in the analysis of business practices to identify impact of improvement options. Formulate and define system scope, objectives, and document business processes.
  • Lead efforts to prepare detailed specifications or prototypes for moderate to complex business improvement projects from which programs will be written, while considering software/hardware equipment, capacity, business processes and other project limitations.
  • Enhance business applications functionality by providing expert knowledge. Act as resource for business units, business analysts and IT development to enhance or develop new or existing applications.
  • Coordinate activities with staff and/or project team members from other departments, vendors and outsourcing firms, on projects that cross functional lines. Monitor progress of issues and resources to ensure that requirements and target dates are met. Support project management and provide communication throughout all phases of process improvement projects.
  • Facilitate meetings between business functional areas and IT, prioritization discussions, make presentations, and publish broadcast Email notifications when required.
  • Perform day-to-day tier 2 support on incidents, known problems, and development changes, including functional and technical issues to users' questions on business software/applications. Customer interaction usually requires supporting one or more major business applications or functional business areas. Assigned routinely as a team member to project prioritization meetings, and all phases of project meetings. Determines tasks based on priorities established with user. Facilitates meetings as required.

Experience/ Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or education and experience may be substituted.
  • Proven knowledge of databases and application analysis. Moderate to advanced experience using data base manipulation and extract tools such as SQL, Excel, Access and Brio, and other PC tools such as VB.NET, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, at a more advanced level (e.g. macros).
  • Effective communication, both written and verbally. Good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

Analyst 2

  • Two plus years’ experience.
  • Competent to work on most phases of applications systems analysis activities, but requires instruction and guidance in other phases. Understanding of core business concept processes, and the integration of those processes. In-depth knowledge of user operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated proficiency of Simplot IT skills and IT tools.

Analyst 3

  • Five plus years related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to provide expert knowledge, research and present accurate facts, draft alternative solutions by leading team efforts to research problems or work on projects.
  • Competent to work independently on multiple phases of most complex projects; and support one or more position-specific applications.
  • Expert in understanding the business and/or function for which applications are designed.
  • Ability to regularly work under deadlines and heavy workloads.
  • Specialty knowledge and demonstrated proficiency of Simplot IT skills and IT tools.

Location Information

Grand View is an agricultural community on the Snake River. Just 50 miles from Silver City in the Owyhee Mountains, 12 miles from C. J. Strike Reservoir, and next to the National Birds of Prey Region.
