DESCRIPTION: The Safety Manager is responsible for overall plant safety. Coordinates all safety training. Conducts inspections and safety audits and recommends corrective measures. Responsible for Emergency Preparedness, Evacuation Procedures and development, implementation and compliance with work safety and ergonomic standards. Manages Workers’ Compensation program.
Oversees safety related activities such as committees, audits developing hazard control methods, procedures and programs, implementing, administering and advising others on hazard controls and hazard control programs, measuring, auditing, and evaluating the effectiveness of hazard controls and hazard control programs and in addition, anticipating, identifying and evaluating hazardous conditions and practices.
Demonstrates organizational development skills necessary for bringing about positive changes towards a safety culture, especially those that have been shown to be effective in maximizing the contributions of all members of the organization in the accomplishments of safety objectives. Maintains compliance with all governmental regulatory agencies and Company policies and regulatory requirements relating to Safety and Security.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience; minimum 5 years experience in Safety/Health Management; good oral and written communication, report generation, and dissemination, presentation and training skills; knowledgeable in OSHA & EPA regulations and ergonomics methodology; and good organizational skills. Strong background in meat production required. CSP or ASP preferred.
Must be able to work in a plant environment. Work is performed in a controlled inside environment and differs according to the area of plant you are in. Some of the time will be in an office type environment. Some will be spent on production floor or other areas in need of a safety professional.
BEHAVIORAL AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel a plus. Interfaces heavily with the Maintenance, Human Resources, Quality Assurance, and Production departments.
