Job Description

SUMMARY STATEMENT: Reporting to the President and CEO, the Quality Assurance Manager creates, implements, and maintains the food safety and quality systems to ensure that the highest possible standards for food safety and quality are achieved.

 SPECIFIC PRODUCT EXPERTISE: Frozen, Natural/Organic Foods, All Food, Sauces/Condiments

CRITICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry and/or quality related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality assurance and food safety management
  • In depth knowledge of HACCP with documented training
  • Experience in the creation and on-going monitoring of pre-requisite programs such as Sanitation, GMP, and Allergen
  • Expertise in facility third party auditing based on GFSI such as BRC and SQF
  • Experience in FDA and USDA facilities, knowledge of all other State and local food safety codes
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal and organizational leadership skills, and analytical and problem solving abilities
  • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Spanish helpful but not required

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish and maintain all quality programs, policies and procedures
  • Supervise QC staff and work in a team setting with Operations, Production, and R & D to maintain food safety and quality standards
  • Responsible for all in-house and third party laboratory testing
  • Evaluate finished product and raw materials against specifications
  • Manage the investigation of internal and external product complaints
  • Liaison with third party auditors, manage compliance and corrective actions
  • Leadership role in HACCP, Recall, and Food Defense teams
  • Manage all food safety regulatory requirements and inspections working with USDA, FDA, etc. as necessary
  • Provide all required documentation, certifications, etc. to customers and internally as needed
  • Manage employee training programs
  • Enforce company guidelines with regard to food safety, quality, and legality
  • Create and maintain finished product specifications
  • Assist in co-packer and supplier monitoring and/or quality audits
  • Responsible for production of labels and label program including review of legality
