Prior to founding BDS Associates, Russ retired from a career spanning 46 years in the food and agri-business industries. Russ spent more than 30 years with multi-national Grand Metropolitan and Pillsbury (subsequently Diageo PLC) during which he served in a variety of operating and corporate executive management positions commencing with vice-president of Pillsbury’s grain division, then president of Pillsbury’s industrial foods business, followed by chairman of both Pillsbury’s and Grand Met’s food service businesses, culminating in an executive role as corporate vice president of Pillsbury/Grand Met in 1987.
Following his retirement from Grand Met in 1992, Russ embarked upon a second career with multi-billion dollar ConAgra Foods where he successfully served in a variety of operating and executive management roles during a new 14-year career. Commencing as the group president for a portfolio of international food and agribusiness processing, import/export subsidiaries located in seven different countries, Russ then served consecutively as president of three separate multi-billion dollar ConAgra business units; ConAgra Flour Milling, ConAgra Poultry Company, and ConAgra Dairy. In 2001, Russ accepted a corporate senior vice presidency reporting to ConAgra’s Chairman & CEO whereupon he served as president & CEO of C&T Malt, an international malting joint-venture between ConAgra and South Africa’s Tiger Oats and, concurrently, as general manager for ConAgra’s Butterball T
