We use a German-made Probat barrel style roaster and slow roast our coffee in the Northern German method. At the end of each roast, the exhaust valves are closed and the coffee is "smoked." This action forces much of the flavor and aroma released from the beans during the roast back into the coffee while it is still hot. The beans are then air-cooled, resulting in a more completely rounded full-bodied cup.
European Roasterie's founder, owner and roastmaster, Timothy Tulloch, is a man with a mission. His goal -- to bring to the buying public the finest coffees in the world, roasted by hand in small batches, and to do it while ensuring that coffee growers, workers and the environment are cared for properly.
Born in South Africa, raised in Scotland, schooled in England and now doing business in the heart of Minnesota farmland, Tulloch's early globetrotting ways readied him for the more than 20 buying trips around the world he makes each year.
