Our company’s family-oriented history begins back in 1884, when an English machinist named William H. Fruen settled near Bassett’s Creek at the western edge of Minneapolis. He was an avid fisherman but, in the days before refrigeration, he found it difficult to keep his catches fresh for more than a day or two. So he decided to construct a fishpond nearby to keep fish alive and fresh. In excavating the area, he discovered a vibrant spring emanating from beneath a thick layer of blue clay. The water was crystal clear and pure, with a moderate mineral content.
