In 1935, during the height of the great depression, two established coffee salesmen decided to take a chance. They left their jobs in Chicago and ventured up I-94 to Lansing, Mich., to start their own company. They chose Lansing as they felt it was the ideal location for their new challenge.
So on Aug. 14, 1935 the two friends scraped together every penny they had and went after their lifelong dream. What they lacked in money, they more than made up for in enthusiasm and energy. Paramount Coffee Company was born.
They lived by one very important principle that continues to be the foundation of the company today. Customer service is the most important aspect of any business. This is the principle that distinguishes Paramount from all others.
As the coffee business changed, Paramount changed with it. In 1943, we moved into our current location. The modern two-story facility was a necessity for our fast-growing company.
The company’s continued expansion, the addition of new products and state-of-the-art equipment led to Paramount’s next great step. In 1950, we built our own roasting plant.
Until then, coffee was purchased after it was roasted, ground, packaged and distributed. Now, Paramount could move into the field of importing and roasting which gave the company an increase in quality control of their primary product.
With the new facilities and increased sales, we added a fully equipped service department. T
