The brewing of ale and porter in Pittsburgh began shortly after the city came alive with its first people. Pittsburgh’s first record of a commercial brewery dates back to 1795, but, undoubtedly, beer was brewed in the city even before then. Early Pittsburgh brewing endeavors relied on plant locations near a hillside where caves could be dug for keeping the brew chilled.
Iron City has been the signature beer of Pittsburgh since 1861. What would a Pittsburgh baseball or football game be without an ice cold Iron. Once delivered to Pittsburghs neighborhoods by horses, you can enjoy one of Pittsburghs oldest traditions at your local bar or pick up a case at your nearest distributor.
Iron City is a premium lager beer that is stilled being brewed fresh daily at the Brewery on Liberty Avenue in Lawrenceville. Talk about fresh beer. You cannot find a fresher beer in the city. We have the ability to skip the long shipping times and have the freshest beer possible in your hand within a matter of days.
The retro logo, reestablished in 1999, brings back the original design and reinvents itself to the younger generation. Recent trends show Iron City in the hands of younger drinkers while the logo is a reminder to all beer drinkers that the folks at Iron City haven't forgotten the quality, integrity, and tradition of its flagship brand.
