- Born from a former wheat and sheep ranch, the R.H. Phillips winery and vineyard proves the value of perseverance. The winery's grapes, once disregarded for lack of a proper pedigree, now sells 700,000 cases a year of premium and superpremium table wines. R.H. Phillips produces wine under its name and labels such as EXP and Kempton Clark. Its Toasted Head brand - with a label emblazed with a fire-breathing bear - earned its name from the charred oak barrels used in aging the wine. Chardonnay accounts for about half the winery's production. The company's wine is sold in the US and Canada. Canada's Vincor bought the company in October 2000.
