Stags’ Leap is one of the world’s great Cabernet appellations, and growing grapes and making wine on this property is a privilege and a thrill. I initially found my way here on a quest for the great Bordeaux varietals, but I cannot deny my love affair with Petite Syrah. There’s nothing else like it. When we rack those barrels in the old stone winery, you can smell the intense berry aromas all across the property. Blending that wine I become the alchemist; tasting it I enter my dreams, savor the fruits of the moment, new memories take root.
Wine grapes have been growing on this property for over a century. The ancient volcanic soils that heat up by day, the bare rock palisades to the east, and the steady cooling breezes that blow dramatically at sunset, all combine to make this a truly unique terroir. If there is a secret to our winemaking it is simply that: terroir. All of our wines are handcrafted to tell the story of the land on which they are grown.
