Superior Nutrition Corporation founded in February 1998 is committed to supplying food products and food ingredients with superior flavor and nutrition.
In March 1998 Alfred Poe, Dr. Steven Schechter and his spouse Barbara Schechter formed Superior Nutrition Corporation (SNC). The idea to form the company was born out of Mr. Poe’s long-held belief in a world-wide opportunity for functional foods and Dr. Schechter’s three year quest to market functional food products developed in his own kitchen. SNC was formed when Mr. Poe financially backed the Schechter’s purchase of their partner’s interest in the pre-existing entity of the Vitality Products Company. Dr. Schechter served as the Director of Research and Development for the Campbell Soup Company. He left Campbell to form Vitality Products Company, and was successful in securing key customers such as Pillsbury in the prepared foods market and the Jersey City School District in the school lunch market. Mr. Poe’s interest in functional foods as a business venture was fueled by his in-depth knowledge of consumer wants and his experience in developing and implementing successful new products and marketing strategies. Mr. Poe and Dr. Schechter worked together to drive the development of Campbell’s Intelligent Cuisine brand of prepared foods for diabetics and those suffering from high cholesterol.
