Rite Foods began processing smoked fish and pickled herring in 1916. At that time the company was known as Rite Cured and Smoked Seafood Products, and it was a division of National Creamery Company. In 1957, Breakstone Dairy bought National Creamery at which time Nathan Petersiel purchased the seafood division. The new company, Rite Foods, was incorporated in Massachusetts the same year. Rite Foods produces pickled herring products, cream cheese spreads, smoked fish salads, smoked salmon spreads, and smoked salmon under the Nathan's and Rite labels.
Today Rite Foods operates a 60,000 sq. foot refrigerated facility in Taunton, Massachusetts, and is a division of Ocean Beauty Seafoods Inc.
